The Dwarven people are a xenophobic race, placing a distrust on outsiders
bordering on paranoia. This comes as no surprise given their history.
When Belphegor first came to New Home, he required a city constructed, from
which he would work. From a small block of granite, Belphegor created the
Dwarven people to construct this city. Upon completion of Darhok,
Belphegor no longer found a use for the Dwarves, so he cast them into the
Waste, expecting them to perish. Being too stubborn to realise they should
die, the Dwarves trekked through the Waste and survived crossing Animus.
No one remembers how the Dwarves arrived on the Virtues, however their
absolute horror of even the thought of boating suggests they managed to
survive a very unpleasant ocean crossing. The Dwarves arrived on the
Virtues a tattered, beaten shell of their former selves. Seeing these
forsaken souls, Tingel was overcome by her maternal instincts and she
rushed to their aid. Nursing them back to health, Tingel offered to the
Dwarves sanctuary within the network of caves beneath the Virtues.
Returning to the earth from whence they came, the Dwarves graciously
accepted Tingel's offer, and have removed themselves from the surface
world, preferring to remain in the safety of their mountains. The Dwarves
have never forgotten Tingel's kindness, and the hearth and clan have
remained the focal point of their lives ever since.
Dwarves are a short, stocky people, reknown for their limitless endurance,
and equally expansive stubborn streak. Tireless workers, the Dwarves mine
the earth, seeking metals and gems with which to ply their most treasured
craft, working the forge. This search for precious metals and gemstones
has developed a streak of avarice, unrivalled in these lands, making the
Dwarf a shrewd but often maligned businessman. Their stubborn nature often
prevents the Dwarf from thinking clearly, but Lif help you if you try to
change his mind once it is set. Easy to anger, there are few things more
formidable than a Dwarf with a chip on his shoulder, except perhaps if he
overhears you poking fun at his wife's beard.
