When Tingel created the Humans to appease her maternal instincts, the
remaining Four, fearing that she would gain favour with Lif, created beings to
rival Tingel's creation. Travelling deep into the heart of the ancient forests
of Pastoria, Phrixus found the first Chuila Tree, and from this, extracted a
small portion of the heartwood. Phrixus carved the heartwood in his own image,
giving the carving the unique features associated with the Elven people. On the
eve of the full moon, when Lif reached her apex, Phrixus wove the essence of his
beloved forests and the wisdom of the ages into his carving. Kneeling, he
exhaled deeply into the carving's mouth, causing its chest to expand. As his
creation accepted the life giving breath, its chest began to rise and fall with
the rhythmic motions of a living creature. Stepping back, Phrixus looked over
his ethereal creation with satisfaction, pleased with its delicate beauty and
slender form. Blessing his child, Phrixus asked of it one simple favour, to
watch over the forests from whence it came, to protect them from interlopers.
Grateful to her father for giving her life, the being willingly agreed, and
thus, the Elf has been ever since associated with the wild and ancient
woodlands of Pastoria.
Born of magic and nature, the Elves have developed a deep affinity with
the sylvan valleys of Pastoria. Living deep within the mystical woodlands
the Elves have forged a unique link with the earth. So that their long
lives would remain uneffected by the ravages of aging, Phrixus blessed his
children with an ethereal beauty. The Elves of Pastoria are distinguished
by their finely chiselled and delicate features, and pale flesh with just
the slightest hint of green, symbolising their link to the forests. The
Elven body is graceful and willowy, seeming to achieve a harmony of body
with soul. Their slender form may sometimes limit the fair folk's physical
prowess, but their agile bodies, keen wit and the wisdom accrued during
their long lifetimes have allowed them to excel where more powerful beings
have failed.
