It is not readily apparent to the casual observer why Lila chose the Gnomes
to be one of her children. There appears to be so little, on the surface, that
they hold in common with each other. Closer inspection, however, will reveal
that the inquisitive nature, and quirky sense of humour the Gnomes possess
strikes a chord with the child-like nature of Lila. The Gnomes' undying quest
for knowledge likewise mirrors the inquisitive nature of most children. Gnomes
are also reknown for their delight in intricately wrought, although harmless
pranks. Often employing illusions or delicate mechanical traps, they seldom
cause more damage than a bruised ego, or on rare occasions, a bruised bottom.
Seldom do people realise behind the serious demeanor of the bookish, reclusive
Gnome is a light-hearted, practical jokester.
Gnomes are short, chubby individuals standing just under three feet tall and
weighing on average 80 pounds. Surprisingly little is known about them however,
because overall, Gnomes have a tendency towards hermit-like behaviour. Often
spending days locked away in laboratories to hone their intellect and develop
wonderous new inventions, the Gnome frequently forgets about the outside world,
pausing only to dash off to a friend to demonstrate a new discovery. Because
the Gnomish life involves a great deal of time shut away in dusty libraries and
workshops, physical endeavours have never been a major focus, rather they spend
most of their time in the development of their already considerable mental
faculties.Gnomes are rather amusing creatures to behold, acting like
absent-minded professors, their large noses and big ears make them seem all the
more comical. This comical appearance is deceiving however, behind the clownish
facade is a brilliant and inventive mind.
