Deep within the bowels of Blightspawn are found the cast aside refuse of
Belphegor's mad schemes, their broken, misshappen forms littering the
cavernous depths of the Pit. Daily, the bodies of horrible experiments
gone awry, and the corpses of those which failed to thrive are dumped into
the Pit. From the offal strewn depths has arisen a creature which has
caused even Belphegor to curse its existance. In one of those odd twists
of fate that no one expects, and everyone later regrets, Belphegor's
minions dropped the shattered bodies of several prototype Drokan into the
Pit before they had expired completely. Surviving off the putrid rotting
corpses of other experiments, these beasts managed to survive and in fact
flourished in the dank and abyssmal environment. Reproducing at an
alarming rate, the creatures quickly overwhelmed the supporting environment
and were forced to expand their territory. Goblins exploded from the
bowels of Blightspawn in a voracious frenzy, consuming everything in their
wake. Belphegor's minions slaughtered them by the hundreds, but more and
more poured from the Pit, like the blood of a wound that cannot be
staunched. Able to adapt themselves to virtually every environment and
climate, the Goblins quickly secured a niche upon Animus, one which
Belphegor has been unable to eradicate. Seeing some benefit in these
creatures, Belphegor has managed to capture several breeding pairs,
releasing them upon the lands of his brother and sisters, a little
something to show his love and affection.
Goblin can adapt to virtually any locale, regardless of the dangers
inherent to the environment. Because of this adaptability, the Goblin have
become a bane to senient brings throughout the Realms. Virtually every
method of extermination has been attempted to eradicate the pests, but the
Goblins are just too fast and too hardy to stay dead for very long. Entire
tribes have been slaughtered wholesale, yet in a years time, they will have
returned to their original numbers. Goblin are not stupid creatures, by
any stretch of the imagination. They are fully aware of their short
comings, and have adapted skills to survive based on their strengths. Only
a cornered Goblin would ever attack someone head on, and alone, they lack
the strength to slay even the weakest of opponents. Rather, they rely upon
their speed and numbers, constructing elaborate ambushes. Competing for
the resources in every environment they enter, the Goblin have quickly
become the most hated race in the Realms. When there is even the
suggestion that one of these little red-skinned, pointy eared, fanged
annoyances has reared its hideous little head, bounties are immediately
levied, and hunting parties race to get the first kill.
